Light Responsive Polymer Membranes: A Review
In recent years, stimuli responsive materials have gained significant attention in membrane separation processes due to their ability to change specific properties in response to small external stimuli, such as light, pH, temperature, ionic strength, pressure, magnetic field, antigen, chemical composition, and so on. In this review, we briefly report recent progresses in light-driven materials ...
متن کاملLight-Responsive Polymer Micro- and Nano-Capsules
A significant amount of academic and industrial research efforts are devoted to the encapsulation of active substances within microor nanocarriers. The ultimate goal of core–shell systems is the protection of the encapsulated substance from the environment, and its controlled and targeted release. This can be accomplished by employing “stimuli-responsive” materials as constituents of the capsul...
متن کاملA Rewritable, Reprogrammable, Dual Light‐Responsive Polymer Actuator
We report on the fabrication of a rewritable and reprogrammable dual-photoresponsive liquid crystalline-based actuator containing an azomerocyanine dye that can be locally converted into the hydroxyazopyridinium form by acid treatment. Each dye absorbs at a different wavelength giving access to programmable actuators, the folding of which can be controlled by using different colors of light. Th...
متن کاملCO2-Responsive polymer membranes with gas-tunable pore size.
We report a smart polymer membrane whose pore can be switched between the "closed" and "open" state just by passing CO2 and Ar in solution respectively. Compared with other stimuli, such as pH or temperature change, gas is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective stimulus for reversibly tuning the pore size and imparting the size selectivity of the membrane.
متن کاملUltrathin, freestanding, stimuli-responsive, porous membranes from polymer hydrogel-brushes.
The fabrication of freestanding, sub-100 nm-thick, pH-responsive hydrogel membranes with controlled nano-morphology, based on modified poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) is presented. Polymer hydrogel-brush films were first synthesized by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) and subsequently detached from silicon substrates by UV-induced photo-cleavage of a spec...
